Dive Brief:
- AAA Cooper Transportation plans to build a new truck loading dock in Spokane, Washington, according to a commercial project application. A company spokesperson didn’t immediately return a message seeking comment.
- The project calls for a new 24,558 square foot warehouse/distribution facility and an attached 4,600 square foot office building along with parking areas for semi-trucks and trailer staging areas, a city summary says.
- The new valuation of the site, at 3951 E. Garland Ave., is estimated to be $14 million. City review processes for items such as water, sewer and transportation are still required before the project can begin.
Dive Insight:
The new site is a 10-minute drive away from an existing ACT facility in the Spokane Valley. It’s unclear what will happen with the existing facility.
The Spokane area used to be the territory of Midwest Motor Express, but parent company Knight-Swift Transportation Holdings combined its LTL brands into ACT on Jan. 1. The company is still considering an expansion to its LTL network.
LTL carriers have been expanding their networks during the freight recession as manufacturing still struggles. Shipment diversions to truckload and last mile gig workers have also put pressure on LTL, executives say.
