Dive Brief:
- Ryder System has opened a new truck rental and maintenance facility in McDonough, Georgia, as part of its strategy to meet increasing demand in high-growth markets, the company announced in a Dec. 4 press release.
- The 20,000-square-foot facility has five drive-through maintenance bays and features RyderGyde, which offers real-time fleet visibility and shop status updates, per the release.
- “McDonough’s proximity to Atlanta, strong infrastructure, and thriving industrial base make it an ideal location for extending our service footprint,” Tom Havens, president of fleet management solutions, said in the release.
Dive Insight:
The metro Atlanta facility opened in late October and employs 11 people, a Ryder spokesman said. The site’s opening follows Ryder’s recent launch of a similar operation in Lebanon, Tennessee.
Ryder’s Georgia site is near I-75 and major distribution hubs, the company said. It advances Ryder’s port-to-door logistics service model with rental, maintenance and fleet solutions.
Locating the facility in McDonough improves Ryder’s position near one of Georgia’s fastest-growing logistics and manufacturing hubs, which is quickly becoming a key inland port destination, according to Ryder.
The Atlanta area’s rise as a logistics hub is tied to the emergence of the Port of Savannah, which earlier this year reported 12.5% year-over-year container volume growth. Infrastructure improvements in the Atlanta area enable containers to be offloaded directly onto trucks, “streamlining freight movement and easing highway congestion,” per the release.
“This expansion reflects Ryder’s investment in high-growth regions where evolving logistics needs demand flexible and tech-enabled solutions,” Havens said.
