Truckload Carriers Association President Jim Ward will retire in the coming months, the organization said last week.
Ward steered TCA at a time of immense change in the industry through calls on Washington, annual events and day-to-day guidance.
He pushed for industry changes such as seeking to repeal the federal excise tax, welcomed TCA’s first Mexican carrier and led the organization when it rolled out a revamped driver recognition program.

When Ward was appointed to the position in 2021, the organization noted how several members urged him to take on the role.
Ward began as TCA president in April 2022 after retiring as president and CEO of Maryland-based carrier D.M. Bowman, per his LinkedIn profile.
His leadership roles also included time with CSX as its Maryland safety manager and managing director of Willis Towers Watson’s transportation division.
“His retirement is the culmination of a thoughtful succession process and a distinguished career of service to the trucking industry,” the TCA said.
The organization has established a search committee to find his successor, aiming for a leader who will “carry forward TCA’s mission and values, while advancing growth, strengthening relationships in Washington and embracing innovation and technology,” the group said.
