Dive Brief:
- USA Truck CEO George Henry, former CEO James Reed and former CFO Zachary King have finalized a deal to buy the carrier from DSV. The transaction closed Friday
- The publicly traded company, headquartered in Hedehusene, Denmark, acquired USA Truck in April 2025 by buying parent company DB Schenker. Potential divestment and a strategic review took up much of the year.
- “The extensive knowledge and global supply chain insights gained under two of the world's leading freight forwarders are now a permanent part of our operational DNA,” Henry said in a statement.
Dive Insight:
An Arkansas-based entity called UTAC is buying USA Truck and its subsidies, returning ownership to where the company’s legacy began according to a news release.
The switch “allows USA Truck to operate with greater speed, flexibility, and focus, prioritizing customer relationships, service reliability, and disciplined growth,” the release said.
Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed, and DSV didn’t immediately return messages seeking comment.
USA Truck began in 1983 when Bob Powell and others bought Crawford Produce. An initial public offering took place in 1992. In 2022, shareholders of the privately owned DB Schenker approved an acquisition deal.
USA Truck currently has 1,800 trucks and 6,000 trailers and provides dedicated, intermodal, logistics and other transportation services.
Other M&A is also kicking off the new year. The Oren family, which has controlled the Dart transportation business for over 90 years, sold to a private investment firm in a deal effective Jan. 1.
Such deals could accelerate given broader economic changes, according to PwC. “Easing interest rates and a modest rebound in freight volumes are enabling buyers to revisit deals that were paused earlier in the cycle,” a report last month said.
