Dive Brief:
- Ward Transport and Logistics Corp. has upgraded to a larger terminal in Toledo, Ohio, a move that the company says will allow it to meet growing demand, according to an Aug. 15 press release.
- The new service center, located at 5200 Stickney Ave., has 52 dock doors and spans nearly 25,000 square feet across almost 14 acres.
- Based in Altoona, Pennsylvania, Ward has more than doubled its door capacity in Toledo through the expansion, said Dwain Key, SVP of operations, in the release.
Dive Insight:
Ward is taking over the Stickney Avenue property from Pitt Ohio, which vacated the space last year when it relocated to a nearly 129,000-square-foot facility in nearby Monroe, Michigan.
The leased site is also listed as a service center for ECM Transport, a Pitt Ohio subsidiary acquired in 2005.
Ward’s decision to grow in Toledo reflects the company’s broader strategy to strengthen its Midwest network. In addition to Toledo, the company operates terminals in Cincinnati, Cleveland and Columbus — all key freight corridors across Ohio.
Ward further expanded its reach in the Midwest when it launched direct routes to Indianapolis in 2024, which offer next-day services to and from Ohio, Chicago and Pittsburgh. Located at 6057 Churchman Bypass, the Indianapolis terminal is the LTL carrier’s 23rd service center across Indiana, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
The Toledo expansion comes less than two months after Ward announced the opening of its larger service center in Richmond, Virginia, at 1901 Ware Bottom Spring Road in Chester. The site added 40 doors, which the company also stated was necessary to meet customer demand.
