- Global port operator APM Terminals, part of A.P.Moller-Maersk, is increasing its ownership of Orange EV electric yard trailers.
- The independent division ordered 96 units for its Elizabeth, New Jersey, operation, its largest terminal on the East Coast, according to an Aug. 19 news release.
- “The new equipment will support ongoing efforts to modernize terminal operations and strengthen the efficiency and reliability of one of North America's most important container gateways,” APM Terminals said in another announcement.

APM Terminals recently expanded a 20-truck Orange EV pilot at its Pier 400 location in Los Angeles to 60 trucks, and the expansions represent a transition from proving grounds to scaling, Orange EV said.
“Together, the two deals point to a pattern playing out across the port sector: operators who spent the last several years piloting electric terminal trucks are now standardizing fleet wide,” the OEM said in its release.
The moves align with Port of Los Angeles and Port of Long Beach efforts seeking to facilitate zero-emission goals. Similarly, the Port of New York and New Jersey is committed to shifting drayage trucks and other equipment away from diesel toward zero-emission alternatives, aiming to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
Along the way, Orange EV’s stake in the market is growing. The company has delivered over 2,000 trucks to market with customers such as Coke Canada Bottling, DHL and United Natural Foods.
The equipment addition is part of APM Terminals’ goal to “enhance operational performance and prepare for future cargo growth,” APM Terminals Elizabeth Managing Director Henrik Kristensen said in the release.
