Rebecca Brewster is retiring from her role as president and COO of the American Transportation Research Institute in early 2027, the organization announced Monday.
For 34 years, Brewster has been with ATRI, the research arm of the American Trucking Associations, including 25 years leading the not-for-profit organization.
“Serving the trucking industry through ATRI has been one of the greatest privileges of my life and I sincerely appreciate the Board’s long-time support of and confidence in my leadership,” she said in the release. “The ATRI team is well-positioned to carry on ATRI’s mission of research to improve the industry’s safety and productivity and I look forward to working with the new leader on the transition.”
ATRI credits Brewster for guiding the organization to become “the trucking industry’s most respected source for industry data and analysis, capturing numerous awards for research excellence.”
The ATRI board, led by Werner Enterprises Chairman and CEO Derek Leathers, appointed a search committee to seek Brewster’s successor.
He said ATRI under Brewster’s leadership made a lasting impact on the trucking industry.
“We are grateful for her three decades of leadership and the legacy she will leave behind,” he said.
Brewster has picked up several awards reflecting her leadership over the years, including FleetOwner magazine’s 2016 Outstanding Women in Trucking award, Women In Trucking Association’s 2013 Influential Woman in Trucking award and the 2010 J.R. “Bob” Halladay award, the ATA previously noted.
The search committee, which is composed of board members, will be chaired by Brenda Neville, president and CEO of the Iowa Motor Truck Association, per the release. The group is expected to begin work next month.
