Cummins CEO Jennifer Rumsey was elected to manufacturing conglomerate 3M’s board of directors, effective June 5, according to a press release.
Rumsey, who has led Cummins since 2022, was also appointed to the board’s science, technology and sustainability committee, which oversees product development and quality standards. She joins committee members David Bozeman, president and CEO of C.H. Robinson Worldwide; Audrey Choi, retired chief sustainability officer of Morgan Stanley; Anne Chow, retired CEO of AT&T Business; and Pedro Pizarro, president and CEO of Edison International.
"Jennifer is a highly regarded leader with deep experience driving growth across global industrial markets through innovation and technology," William Brown, 3M chairman and CEO, said in the release. "She will bring valuable perspective to our Board as we advance our strategic priorities and create long-term value."

In 2022, Rumsey became the first woman to serve as Cummins’ CEO after more than two decades with the engine and power technology manufacturer. During her tenure, the company has expanded investments in lower-emissions technology, including powertrains for hydrogen and electric trucks, while navigating the commercial vehicle industry’s transition toward cleaner energy sources.
Beyond Cummins, Rumsey serves on the boards of the Business Roundtable, Central Indiana Corporate Partnership and the Hydrogen Council. She’s also a member of the Society of Women Engineers, SAE International and Women in Trucking Association, according to her corporate bio.
Rumsey’s appointment comes as 3M continues to reshape its business following the 2024 spinoff of its healthcare division as well as its efforts to strengthen focus on innovation and advanced manufacturing.
