Forward Air Chief Information Officer Joseph Tomasello resigned from his position Oct. 13, according to a securities filing. The filing reported that Tomasello filed his resignation notice Oct. 10.
Prior to working with Forward Air, Tomasello spent a little over eight years with FedEx, according to his LinkedIn account. Some of his roles with the parcel carrier included CTO, CIO, VP of IT and director of architecture.
The company appointed Jason Ringgenberg as interim CIO, effective immediately, as noted in the security filing.
“Mr. Ringgenberg is a seasoned information technology professional with extensive leadership and transportation industry experience,” per the SEC filing.
Before working with Forward Air, Rinngenberg served as CIO for Yellow Corp. He previously held the same role at YRC Freight, a subsidiary of Yellow Corp. Before joining the transportation industry, he served 20 years at IT company Accenture, where he led a global freight and logistics industry program.
The executive changes come as the company revamps its operations after challenges stemming from its 2024 acquisition of Omni Logistics. The company experienced a nearly $1 billion net loss from Omni’s integration with the LTL carrier.
Despite a tough year, Omni’s operations are expanding to include an automotive replenishment service, according to an Aug. 20 press release. To execute the replenishment, Omni is working with a global automaker to provide transportation, warehousing and order fulfillment.
To maximize shareholder value, in May, the company also announced its intention to reincorporate in Delaware.
Still, the company is in the process of figuring out its future. One potential outcome is a sale or merger, according to an August earnings call. During the call, CFO Jamie Pierson emphasized that the company isn’t letting possible outcomes influence the fundamentals of the newly merged company.
“To unwind it, I think, would be value destructive, but there might be one that we would consider,” CEO Shawn Stewart said.
