Mac Pinkerton will start as ArcBest's COO of asset-light logistics next year, according to a May 29 news release.
The move, effective Jan. 5, will complete another step in a series of changes the transportation company has made this year.
“We’re excited for Mac to join our team. He brings a depth of experience, a passion for customers and extensive supply chain knowledge,” ArcBest Chairman and CEO Judy McReynolds said in the news release.

Pinkerton previously logged nearly three decades at C.H. Robinson Worldwide. In February 2024, Pinkerton handed off the baton of president of North American Surface Transportation for the brokerage to Michael Castagnetto. Pinkerton was in the role for half a decade.
That ended Pinkerton’s longtime career at the brokerage, which included time as VP of Service Lines, VP of Transportation, and general manager of the company’s Mobile, Alabama, and Dallas offices, according to an annual report.
Pinkerton’s addition to ArcBest follows a series of executive changes for the Arkansas-based business that included the promotion of Eddie Sorg from the asset-light logistics COO role to chief commercial officer as of Feb. 1.
The fiercely competitive brokerage business and bitter cycle left ArcBest's asset-light business with another operating loss in Q1 of $4.4 million, but that was down from a $15.3 million loss a year ago.
ArcBest is focused on advancing digital capabilities and implementing technology to improve efficiency for better customer and carrier experiences within its asset-light business, ArcBest President Seth Runser told Trucking Dive in a statement.
“We’re excited for Mac Pinkerton to join the team in January as we keep taking steps toward continuous improvement and innovation,” Runser also said. “His deep industry knowledge and expertise only strengthens our ability to stay flexible and responsive to customer needs in an ever-changing supply chain environment.”
