Harbor Trucking Association CEO Matt Schrap will be stepping down after four years at the helm, the trade group announced on May 20.
Schrap will be leaving the association on Aug. 22 to take an opportunity he and his family felt was best for them, Board President Robert Loya told Trucking Dive in an email.
“Matt's dedication and uncanny ability to diplomatically maneuver very controversial issues has been instrumental in elevating the Harbor Trucking Association," Loya said in the release, which called Schrap a "transformative" leader.
Both the executive committee and Schrap will be dedicated to helping the association make a smooth transition, per the release.
The HTA is on a national search for a new CEO that is committed to a sustainable and efficient drayage industry. It is also looking for a strategic leader with experience in transportation, logistics and stakeholder engagement.

"The #Drayage business is not for the faint of heart…lol….and no matter what, I will continue to advocate for this critical industry wherever I find myself," Schrap said in a LinkedIn post announcing the news.
Currently, Schrap also serves part-time as a lecturer for the Center for International Trade and Transportation, which he’s done for 10 years, according to his LinkedIn profile. In the past, he has been with Velocity Vehicle Group, Crossroads Equipment Lease and Finance, and California Fleet Solutions.
Since joining the Harbor Trucking Association in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, Schrap has led the organization's advocacy on multiple complex issues faced by drayage carriers, such as port congestion, high detention and demurrage fees, and the push for fleet electrification.
"He has tirelessly advocated for our members, navigating complex challenges with intelligence and a unique ability to connect with stakeholders across the spectrum," Loya said in the press release. "We are deeply grateful for his commitment and the significant strides the HTA has made under his leadership.”
