ArcBest plans to close and consolidate services centers with nearby locations across a range of states as part of a company-wide restructuring plan.
The closures affect locations in Plainfield, Connecticut; Bowling Green, Kentucky; Effingham, Illinois; Sullivan, Missouri; Sioux City, Iowa; Watertown, South Dakota; Port Allen, Louisiana; Hattiesburg and Tupelo in Mississippi; and Blountville, Tennessee, the company told Trucking Dive in an email.
Service centers slated for closure
The reductions represent approximately 1% of the carrier’s total doors. It’s part of ArcBest’s restructuring and rebranding of some of the company’s businesses.
The overhaul also calls for reductions in the workforce, which includes eliminating some open roles, amounting to about a 2% cut. Those positions don’t involve workers represented by the Teamsters, union spokesperson Matt McQuaid said in an email.
But joint union-management representatives will still have to approve the service center changes in line with a National Master Freight Agreement, according to ArcBest. Fewer than 50 union employess will move from smaller to larger nearby facilities as part of the transition, McQuaid told Trucking Dive by phone.
