Dive Insight:
The CDL school gives new drivers the chance to connect with Swift’s operations and leadership. Besides the new training addition to its Mobile terminal, the trucking giant has 13 other training sites in its network, according to its website.
FleetForce has locations in Florida, North Carolina and Texas and offers 160-hour training programs to prepare drivers for commercial roles. The turnkey training provider highlights a competitive administrative cost of $7,000 per seat, according to its website.
“Our partnership with Swift is a direct response to that demand by bringing professional CDL training to Mobile, a critical point for the state's freight network, where the opportunity to make an immediate impact is the highest,” Tra Williams, president and CEO of FleetForce, said in the release.
Driver demand is playing out this quarter amid significant rate improvements, and carriers are raising wages accordingly. In Q2, carriers from GP Transco to Hirschbach and Nussbaum Transportation have announced higher rates for drivers, and The National Transportation Institute projected similar moves from over-the-road and other in-demand driver groups, such as tankers and teams.
