Transportation Equipment Network will add 3,000 trailers to its rental and leasing operations next month, expanding its capacity to 85,000 units, according to a news release.
The addition involves 2027 model year equipment, featuring the latest telematics and sensors, the company said. The expansion comes as TEN projects increased demand this peak season.
“We secured these new units to meet what we anticipate to be an unusually high demand, so our customers aren’t scrambling for equipment when they should be focused on moving freight,” COO Ari Silkey said in the release.
TEN has been seeing demand signals pick up, and its customers are seeking newer equipment and businesses are also seeking to expand the length of their holiday season, Silkey told Trucking Dive in a video interview Monday. “We thought it prudent for our business to get ahead of that as much as possible,” he said.
Tech for the equipment can include auto-inflation tire systems to ensure wheels are properly calibrated even as conditions vary, cameras inside trailers for increased visibility and sensors on doors with alerts if a trailer is open when it shouldn’t be, Silkey noted.
“There's a variety of other sensors that we're actively testing and iterating on to figure out exactly where the optimal intersection of technology and assets will be for our customers,” he said.
For carriers such as JoyRide Logistics, having a partner like TEN that can provide 50 more dry vans on short notice makes the “difference between taking the freight and passing on it,” founder Adis Danan said in the release.
Partner USA Truck has also been leveraging TEN’s network. In January, the pair announced a $50 million enterprise lease agreement for 53-foot dry van trailers.
TEN’s fleet also includes refrigerated, flatbed and heated trailers. Chassis as well as storage and shuttle trailers are also offered.
Across North America, the company’s 45 maintenance bays, a mechanic workforce of 400 that’s growing, and mobile repair services are also available, Silkey said.
