Schneider National promoted two executives, one to lead its truckload segment and the other to oversee its intermodal and logistics business, the carrier announced June 29.

Steve Wells was appointed EVP of truckload, while Michael Baumgardt was named EVP of intermodal and logistics, per the release.
The moves were part of a C-suite shuffle where Jim Filter, EVP and group president of transportation and logistics, transitioned to president and CEO on July 1. He succeeded Mark Rourke, who shifted from the role to executive board chairman. Baumgardt and Wells will report to Filter.
Additionally, the carrier announced Angela Prill, VP of intermodal network management, was promoted to SVP and general manager of intermodal operations. She will be part of Baumgardt’s team, the press release said.

Filter said the executive promotions will help the carrier remain nimble and maintain relationships with customers. All three executive appointments were effective July 1.
“Our strategy empowers accountable leaders and engaged teams to accelerate growth and drive efficiency,” Filter said in the announcement.
Baumgardt has been with Schneider since the early 2000s and most recently was SVP of intermodal, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Wells worked at Cowan Systems for nearly 30 years, most recently as the company’s president according to his LinkedIn profile. Schneider acquired Cowan Systems in 2024.
Wells noted joining Schneider’s executive team allows him to bring his expertise to the carrier’s truckload portfolio.
“In this ever-changing supply chain environment, my focus remains on providing customer-driven solutions that move freight forward every day,” he said.
