Dive Insight:
Prime Inc.’s new Griffin site will contribute to Georgia's burgeoning $107 billion transportation and logistics industry, Gov. Brian Kemp said in the release. In addition to hiring 50 drivers, Prime Inc. expects the site to employ 120 people, including mechanics and facility maintenance workers.
Besides proximity to major interstates and customers, the Spalding County location supports Prime Inc.’s commitment to employee development, per the release. The Georgia development is the company’s first large-scale facility in the state, Corey Doel, a company spokesperson, said in an email to Trucking Dive.
“This facility’s primary purpose will be to support our drivers who travel nationwide with truck/trailer maintenance needs, [and offer] amenities such as food, showers and laundry availability,” Doel said.
Doel added that plans for the facility do not include warehousing or storing customer products.
Pat Wilson, a commissioner with the Georgia Department of Economic Development, said in the release that Prime Inc.’s investment contributes to Georgia's “role as a logistics leader.”
“With logistics supporting one in nine Georgia jobs, this new campus will strengthen an industry that touches every community in our state,” Wilson said.
Logistics growth in Georgia has increased in recent years, driven by expansion projects from the Georgia Ports Authority and the auto industry. Many companies, including Ryder System, Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores and Four Star Freightliner, have also invested in equipment maintenance operations around the state.
