Carrier Transicold has launched a new program to replace transport refrigeration units for fleets, helping prolong the life of a trailer and reduce replacement costs.
The program, known as Fleet Refresh, has the business’ dealers remove and install the equipment, pairing it with new Lynx Fleet telematics and Carrier Transicold’s BluEdge monitoring and predictive analytics service, according to a news release.
“Rising trailer acquisition costs and extended lead times are prompting many refrigerated fleets to look for alternatives to traditional equipment replacement cycles,” the release said. “Fleet Refresh is designed for fleets that want to extend the life of existing trailer assets while upgrading aging refrigeration equipment.”
The program applies to Carrier Transicold’s TRU models, including its X4 and Vector series.
The initiative continues the company’s track record of innovation. In 1968, the business developed the first front-wall refrigeration unit for containers, according to its website, before forming the Carrier Transicold brand in 1970 through an acquisition. In 2010, it introduced the first natural refrigerate container unit.
Fleets are still cautious about trailer orders. ACT Research recently noted cancellations of orders remain elevated, and trucking businesses are not yet veering toward broad expansion in trailer purchases as “freight demand remains uneven.”
Nevertheless, trailer orders have been surging in recent months, notably in May with a 249% increase year over year. Regulatory changes, including Trump administration changes in tariffs under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act, could be pressuring the market, FTR Transportation Intelligence suggested.
